Swollen Han River

This photo is from the Donga-Ilbo. Han River waters rose about 20 meters above normal due to torrential rain over the weekend. This photo from the Donga-Ilbo shows one of the many Han River parks under water.

The photo to the left is from the Chosun-Ilbo. The Olympic Expressway is submerged from the waters of the Han River. Expressways on both sides of the Han River were closed due to the storm waters. Traffic was light today as it was a National holiday. Clean up crews are doing their best while awaiting the Han River to recede.

Run, run river, run...

Wednesday, 12 July 2006. This is what the Jeongbalsan subway station looked like yesterday during a heavy downpour. Many other subway stations suffered the same fate as transit authority shut down the number 3 subway line between Jeongbalsan and Daegok in Seoul.

The worst thing that happened to me, well my shoes got wet... not too comfortable in the afternoon working in an air conditioned office with wet shoes, socks and the bottom 3 inches of my trousers wet. Where's my LL Bean catalog?... need to get some storm shoes...

It's been how long???

Wow. Four months since my last post. Been busy with school and work but have been posting to a few message boards now and then. I've decided to take the summer term off from school. This is a much needed break from Yonsei. I also will have several business trips that would have caused me to miss more than a couple of weeks from school so it made sense to take a summer break.

Reading this article today in the Chosun Ilbo reminded me of a couple of funny customers at the local Starbucks.

Today a woman Sergeant First Class (US Army) in front of me ordered a tall sumtinsumtin-Mocha-cachino-something, and then asked, "Can I have it without the chocolate?"... Huh??? Then an Army Major ordered his fufu-coffee with non-fat milk... with whipped cream topping. Huh??? Both were clueless. I stepped up to the cashier and asked the young Korean lady in my best Hangoonmal, "Can I have ramyeon... without the noodles." She laughed and then asked me what I really wanted.

So the norKs decided to launch their fireworks early yesterday. One TPD2 failed 40 something seconds in flight. Wretchard at The Belmont Club has a good idea of what may have brought that down.

Interesting stuff...
